Derek Weisberg est né en 1983. Il a commencé très tôt à sculpter, commençant par le médium de purée de pommes de terre dès qu’il pouvait tenir une fourchette et un couteau, puis passait à l’assemblage de figurines, où il pouvait charger un pistolet à colle chaude. À l'âge de 7 ans, il s'est tourné vers le médium de la céramique, qui a marqué le début de son amour pour la vie et de sa passion ultime. Il a poursuivi sans relâche la sculpture en céramique tout au long de son enfance et de son adolescence à Benicia, en Californie, où il a été élevé. À l'âge de 18 ans, il s'installe à Oakland, en Californie, pour poursuivre son amour pour la céramique et l'art en général. Il fréquente le California College of Art and Crafts. Au CCPA, il a reçu plusieurs prix et a obtenu son diplôme avec mention en 2005. Depuis lors, Weisberg est copropriétaire de sa propre galerie, Boontling Gallery, ainsi que de nombreux autres salons. Il a également travaillé avec des artistes réputés tels que Stephen De Staebler, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Manuel Neri et Peter Lane, entre autres. De plus, Weisberg a maintenu une pratique de studio forte et exigeante, exposant à l'échelle nationale et internationale. Weisberg vit et travaille actuellement à New York et est professeur à Greenwich House Pottery.
